Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings of the bluebird as she sings
The six o'clock alarm would never ring
But six rings and I rise, wipe the sleep out of my eyes
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings

Cheer up, sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen

You once thought of me as a white knight on his steed
Now you know how happy I can be
Oh and our good time starts and end without dollar one to spend
But how much, baby, do we really need?

Cheer up sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen

Cheer up sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen

Cheer up sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean

I can't believe that this is the only Monkees song on RP and how infrequently it's been played. I grew up on these guys and, regardless of whether they wrote their own music or played their own instruments, they've earned a place in R&R history, IMHO.

My elementary school days were FULL of The Monkees' songs...some, such as I'm a Believer, if we brought them in, were even played by the nuns at St. Augustine's for sing-alongs in Music class.  I also remember convincing my grandmother in Coffeyville, Kansas, to buy me a box of cereal because it had, manufactured into the side of the box, a 45-rpm single called, (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone, if my memory serves me correctly.  I cut it out and played it on my aunt's turntable, and, warped as it was, it transported me.  At the time, Grandma was listening to Paul Harvey on her tube radio in the kitchen and asked me to turn it down.  The Last Train to Clarksville comes for all, so abide in Peace, Mr. Jones, until we see and dance with you there by and by...

At one time, were the U.S. ambassadors of music all over the world. Its popularity has continued until today, which certainly will not happen with many bands (fashion) that, nowadays, here are a lot of "bells", but, compared for his time, with the Monkees, are minor . From my records of the Monkees, I remember the themes: "Last Train to Clarksville", "I'm A Believer" "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "Daydream Believer".
This in connection with the disappearance, today, at age 66, their frontman David Thomas "Davy" Jones, r.i.p.

I've made a point to stop and listen to some of their songs being posted. It's amazing how well these songs have held up over the years. Very nice. Nice enough I'm gonna put 'em on my wish list.

The TV show was actually pretty fun too.

So this is exactly why I love this site.  Within the last hour we've had everything from classical to bubblegum pop.  A-freakin-awesome!  Keep up the good work.
Only Monkees song I ever really liked.
Poor Davy. He took the Last Train to Clarksville.
Awesome! The Monkees on RP. Regardless of who REALLY sang the songs, I loved their work.
RIP Davy, you were fun to watch and did not take your self too seriously.

Thanks for playing.  Brings back happy memories.

I am simultaneously thrilled, and deeply embarrassed. I was 14 when this came out.
For all the hype and silliness, they sure made good music. RIP, Davy.
missed it, but good one to remember him by...
