The mind has so many pictures
Why can't I sleep with my eyes open
The mind has so many memories
Can you remember what it looks like when I cry
I'm tryin', tryin' to tell you
All that I can in a sweet and velvet tongue
But no words ever could sell you
Sell you on me after all that I have done
I'm only the one you love
Am I only the one you love
The Lady Gloom and her hornets
Circling 'round is now before us
The screamin's done without movin'
One little move and for sure you will be stung
I'm singin' "Oh Jerusalem. oh Jerusalem.
See what he's picked up in the park."
Let's fuck this awful art party
Want you to make love to me and only to me in the dark
I'm only the one you love
Am I only the one you love
Doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo
We've traded in our snapshots
We're goin' through the motions
Into the view I'm leavin' you
Down Conduit Avenue
Into the early mornin'
Into the early mornin'
The one I love
Are you only the one I love
Why can't I sleep with my eyes open
The mind has so many memories
Can you remember what it looks like when I cry
I'm tryin', tryin' to tell you
All that I can in a sweet and velvet tongue

Don't like it at all....that's the beauty of diversity eh.
Ummmmm, I was hearin' him w/o the backup vocals and all that mixing and I just don't get it
I think somebody slipped me a Ruffy.

or Ethel Merman. Not so much in this song, but a complete cd is unlistenable. I have his self titled cd that I will give away to anyone who can stand it.

Or has a more discerning ear than your average listener. There is some resemblence in certain songs, occasionally at best.

clever segue from Jump Little Children's 'Too High' - both songs use parallel octaves in the vocals throughout.
N.B. the segue is clever, which doesn't mean that 'Too High' doesn't suck!
Rufus Rufus Rufus. Every day!

Even more distinctive is the duo formed by his mom and his aunt: Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
What a wonderful piece of trivia! I didn't know. I listened to a LOT of the McGarrigle sisters! Thanks, Poose!
I love this album, but think Rufus is an acquired taste. I got several of his CDs as gifts, and it took a few listens for me to really appreciate his style.
Has a twang of Todd Rundgren to it, doesn't it?

I uploaded this as I felt it was the most "listener friendly," for what is certain to be legions of non-fans. Glad it appeals.

Funny. I was actually wondering if this was RadioHead because it sounded similar but somehow different, so I came to check it out. I think maybe it's not so much the voice exactly, but the styling goes a long way to giving it that Thom Yorke feeling. Anyway, not really digging it.
