homines

mund(i) et astrorum lamen

mali hominis crimen

O caritas, O caritas
nobis semper sit amor
mos perituri mortem salutamus
sola resurgit vita
Ah, this world is burning fast
Oh, the world will never last
I don't want to lost it here in my time
Give me time forever here in my time.
Translation of Latin:
(I don't want to lose the harmony of the universe
I see all things... burning, I hear men... shouting.
Now is the light of the world and the stars going out
Now does the blame for the disaster fall upon men.
Grief is heavy with sadness and tears
Great is the noise from the earth and the seas
O love, O love be with us always.
We who will perish salute death. Life alone goes on.)

Vandal is (almost) totally correct--in the way that we westerners interpret 'jihad'. However, the Quran posits two jihads -- the outer, like war and strife, and the inner, like spiritual development and peacefulness. One is easier than the other? Which do you think?
But perhaps MiracleDrug is conflating 'jihad' with 'hajj' (ḥadjdj or hadj) which is the pilgrimage Muslims must take to Mecca at least once in their lifetime. In that sense, then, all Muslims are on hajj.
In any event, MiracleDrug, you should get an education before weighing in. Nothing fucks up the machinery of social discourse quite like inept operators, especially on essential but fairly easy facts.

I agree with the comments regarding the greatness of Catch Bull at Four and Tea for the Tillerman, but this is one he should have left on the editing room floor. . . horrible. . .
there is NO SUCH THING as a non-Jihadi Muslim,,,
I don't care what or who Cat Stevens is today.
Back in the day when albums like Catch Bull at Four and Tea for the Tillerman were being put out.
He was the man, a great artist with great music, by talented musicians.
This song is one of the best.

"Salman Rushdie, indeed any writer who abuses the prophet or indeed any prophet under Islamic law, the sentence for that is actually death," {Yusuf Islam aka Cat Stevens} said at the time.
Rather a jihadist 'spiritual' path this 'non-jihadist' is on.
Cat Stevens did NOT go "all jihadi" on anyone. He simply chose a spiritual path that happened to be Islam.

Love this album.
Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat were awesome, but this album was somewhat under-appreciated, in my opinion.
Singing in Latin ... kind of cool ...
I took 3 years of Latin in HS - believe me, there is nothing cool about singing in Latin. . .

If you've ever watched an interview with him where he talks about his spiritual views, there is nothing about "jihad" in the sense that some of our more ignorant citizens have interpreted the meaning of "jihad." (In fact, "jihad" was hijacked by Muslim extremists... as SO MANY religions are wont to do, hijacking and perverting certain spiritual principle to their own nefarious ends.)
Love this song... I remember sunny afternoons in my dorm room, freshman year of college, playing this album. Nice memories...

The last time I heard this song was when I stopped listening to my original vinyl copy - probably in the early 80's. Amazingly,
I recognized it almost immediately.... I don't remember particularly loving the song then, but it sounded amazing today - thanks!

Not much to base an opinion on after.
Thanks Bill, nice song.
Latin music—in the original sense of "Latin."

One of Cat's lesser-played songs, but it's SO good to hear it here! Thanks for the upload, whoever submitted it - and thanks for playing it, Bill/Rebecca! I love this song.
This is why i listen to RP. There are only two words,,,Thank You.
An astute reply. At the risk of reducing it to absurd simplicity, Buddha was also a jihaddist. The outer jihaddist wants war, power, to impose his will on others, is negative and contemptuous of many who oppose him. The inner jihaddist seeks enlightenment, true serenity, and so must refute conflict and abolish the ego, the Self. What else was Buddha seeking?
You said it best. One is easier than the other. Which do you think? In Islam, the inner jihad is found in schools of thought and being such as the Sufi.
