When hearing this after Radiohead's Optimistic, you can hear how 7 Brothers borrowed from that song !
Still works wonders!
I always think the intro is Adam Ant's "Friend Or Foe".
Well I'm gonna go listen to that, I need a good 80s kick in the pants tonight.
+1 for cool band name

When THIS is played after REM Drive you suddenly realize how boring REM is.
WOW---> Great Energy/Great Sound! Lo\V/e the \V/ocals!

Interesting version with the vocals added. Make for a richer tune, furshur.
Hearing music like this has made me give up commercial music radio and their SSDD
"Golllldfingerrrrrrr!"
just me?
just me?

BillG, is it just me or did you recently switch to a version with vocals? I still dig it, but I think I rated this quite a while ago, yet had never heard lyrics before just now.

Thank you very much!
Oi Va Voi is a British band that takes its name from a Yiddish-derived exclamation popular in modern Hebrew meaning, approximately, "Oh, dear!" The band formed in London, England, in the year 2000. So the klezmer influence is apt to be true.
Thank you very much!
I am ever a sucker for a chopped up Amen break, but this is just TOO MUCH FUN!

Prog Balkan Techno... dead giveaway: 7/8 time signature. ;-)
reminds me a bit of "beats antique"!

Reminded of some ska klezmer, some Spaccanapoli. Nice, mellow but energetic.
Silly! (I mean that in a good, fun way.)

Yes, I listened to Macedonian "folk" music like this, but with 3 brass flutes, flugel horn (OK 17 Players) this weekend Fabulous stuff.
Naah, this is no Greek music. This is Slavic in origin, possibly ex-Yugoslavia.

I like it, and it reminds me a bit of Slavic Soul Party, Teknochek Collision. Can't seem to find anyone else who likes that song.

It's a Yiddish thing. I grew up listening to Uncles and Cousins playing a simpler version of this kind of music.

lick wood means rewind!
I like the album version way better than this remix. And a great album that is btw.

Lot going on here, too.
There's a lot going on here.
Calexico plus gypsy Jazz mixed with a touch of Electronica! A feast for the ears! Thanks Bill!
6.5....Ignorance or Apathy?
Good enough to not get PSD'd, but not exciting enough for me to chase it down for my collection.
Interesting, and sounds quite musically 'clever' to my untrained ears...but not sure that I like it on first listen.
Every time it starts to grow on me, something changes and the appeal diminishes..

Sweet.... great for the head...
Take the emphasis off of the horns and put it on a spanish 12 string guitar and I would be sold.
Like Macedonian folk music. God for movie sound.

I take it that you're volunteering to perform, the next tune chock full of syncopation in 7/8 time? This is awful stuff...perhaps the 7 Brothers should have received some music lessons...
I kinda like it. It feels like a trippy, drug-induced, Tarantino soundtrack.

Granted, this one is not quite as good as "Yuri", but I do like the juxtaposition of the traditional instruments/song stylings with the techno beats. Combine that with the smooth nature of the song and it's a very cool, edgy, mellow groove.
Weirdly soothing. . .
Klezmer Supergrass!
Cool drum and bass compilation, I was surprised to see Oi Va Voi although I only know their kitschy but catchy Yuri.
I like it but it seems like it's been on forever...
Very nice soundtrack for an interesting afternoon. I like the Freilech flavor.

Nice smorgysbord buffet of latin, klezmer, meditteranean, india, folky, gypsy, jazz and other tasty flavors in a yummy dish. Great to have worldly world music on RP.
With a dash of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass?
Has a very nice Bukovina sound to it. I like!
First impression was positive because it is so eclectic, but as the song wore on (and it did) it sounded more like a jam session and less cohesive. There are a lot of people in this band, and apparently everyone wants their time to solo.
Like it ... Nice, solid bass.
I dunno, I kinda like it

I find these guys refreshing. Like the ginger served with a nice plate of sushi.
Yum.
very cool, ethnic sounding, . . where ever they are, I wanna go, sounds like a fun party!

Absolutely Masterful segue from the Violent Femmes. The DJ's state-of-the-art.
Bravo!

Bill, I think you're refering to this album, though 7 Brothers is also on the Laughter Through Tears album (as is Refugee). I doubt you'll find a copy of Digital Folklore on Amazon though. Strange that Amazon US has a different playlist than Amazon UK for the new album - what's that about?

Nice to hear something else from this besides that Yuri track; it's tough to get an impression of a group from a single song. :)
