This lonely existence paves the way
For the heart of hearts must beat be brave
While this quiet lightning storm
Wrecks the harvest gold we tried to sow

So it begins, the way the blood still dances beneath the skin
As the messenger from hell says we're bound to win
As the days, they come, but the years, they go
So take care of your freedom they'll never know

I sit on the wing for a blackbird's song
To tell me where and when this all went wrong
There's no resolution without remorse
With ignorance, bliss, defend, let's stay the course

Puncture the skin and see its blood run cold on desert sand
Come hear the men from mothers with childless hands
As the days, they come, but the years, they go
So take care of your freedom they'll never know

Take good care of your freedom
They'll never know

Take what you give until there is nothing left, but forever live
And night descends on shadows without their kill
As the days, they come, but the years, they go
So take care of your freedom they'll never know

Yeah, take good care of your freedom
They'll never know

As the days, they come
But the years, they go
So take care of your freedom
They'll never know

Seems very apropos for these times
It would be nice to hear his first band - Fastway - Say What You Will on RP
Not my type of performer; however I saw them live and they sure know how to put on a show!
Polka rock!
Singer's voice reminds me of that of the Scorpions' singer! Weird! Nice tune though.

I used to go see Black 47 at Paddy Reilly's on 2nd Avenue many years ago.  Fun band.

Oh, I was going to say it reminds me of "Seamus" from Pink Floyd's "Meddle" album.   Then again, everything sounds like Pink Floyd, right?
Before Flogging Molly - Dave King was in this awesome 80's (Led Zeppelin) band.

Play Hendrix after Beethoven is genial, but play this after Hendrix is terrible. {#Beat}

looks like the people on the cover picture are thinking maybe the same thing

Yes, it would.

Molly? ;)

This is just so feckin' good, pure distilled craic.

Edit: I bought this CD and the other tracks are nearly all as high-octane and frantic as this, bar one relatively slower number. This is not lullaby music for going bye-byes to, right enough. Feck, I'd love to see this lot live, with the beer and whiskey flowing :*)

Like the concept, but this particular track, not so much the execution.

Molly would not wish to be flogged to this. Bleh.
try as I might, this does not work for me.

I'd love to hear this bunch live with loads of room to mosh and of course a well-stocked bar. Craic gu leòr! The Pogues with a tuneful singer. 9 from the foot-tapping Nottingham jury.

On speed, sorry but I can´t stand this crap.
What a mess!

And it quotes "Like a Hurricane" too....
I dig the Flogging Molly.  We need some more variety, though, Bill!  Getting tired of the same 3-4 songs.
Listening to this, I look like the bloke sitting at the table on the cover with a pained expression.

2 for the song, 8 for the lurid thought about flogging molly.

Kinda reminds me of Stan Ridgway.
great tune, and even better live!

For once a piece from Flogging Molly that sounds nice.  Too bad about the accordion - otherwise I would have given it a 7.

Somehow an accordion sounds much more pleasant with  the fiddle riding on it like this.

(Those wacky Gaelic folks figured that out.)

No too much into the song, much more into the glass of guiness up here,  and god this one seems so close, and yet too far. Ouch!
Argh!

If you wondered about the name, like I did, this explanation is from Wikipedia:

In an interview with Kerrang! magazine, King stated that the band's name comes from the bar (Molly Malone's) that faithfully supported the band from the very beginning, "We used to play there every Monday night and we felt like we were flogging it to death, so we called the band Flogging Molly.

Crazy tribal music

Rollicking good stuff.

Really? I thought it was the Levellers at first. And what is it about folk that they object to musical styles being used? There is nothing original in music-making after all these millennia, so all music is derivative of something. Get used to it and quit slagging artists off by accusing them of "rip-offs".

Sounds like the Pogues, only faster..
An obvious rip-off of Weird Al.
OK!  Let's polka!!

Just a bit - don't think I would have noticed if it wasn't pointed out.

These guys are playing a ground stage at Summerfest on July 4th, probably well worth the $15 admission.

Interesting note about the lead singer of this band, Dave King.  He once-upon-a-time fronted the pop metal band Fastway in the early 80s.  Those of us of the right age might remember the single "Say What You Will."  Interesting re-invention of self for Mr. King.
Never, ever would have expected that!  Will dust off my vinyl Fastway and give it a listen tonight.

If listeners are digging this, hopefully we'll hear from the Young Dubliners on RP soon.  Similar sound.

Like Pogue Mahone if Shane McGowan could sing in tune (though I love his drunken croaks to bits :)). Music to get rat-arsed and dance to. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

New band for me. I like this - they have a 'theatrical' sound.
This is my favorite track on this cd. {#Bananajam}
The more I hear from this group, the more I like. Not really sold on this one though.
I agree; it's great to hear Flogging Molly on RP. But a strange song choice. How about something off Drunken Lullabies?
