Nothing could be bring me closer
Nothing could be bring me near
Where is the road I follow
To leave, leave?
It's under, under, under my feet
The sea spread out there before me
Where do I go when the land touches sea?
There is my trust in what I believe
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
To leave it, believe it
Leave it all behind
Shifting the dream
Nothing could bring me further from my old friend time
Shifting the dream
It's charging the scene
I know where I marked the signs
I suffer the dreams of a world gone mad
I like it like that and I know it
I know it well, ugly and sweet
I temper madness with an even extreme
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
I say that I'm a bantam lightweight
I say that I'm a phantom airplane
That never left the ground
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
To leave, believe it
Leave it all behind
Lift me, lift me
I attain my dream
I lost myself, I lost the
Heartache calling me
I lost myself in sorrow
I lost myself in pain
I lost myself in gravity
Memory, leave, leave, leave
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
To leave it, believe it
Leave it all behind
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
To leave it, believe it
Leave it all behind
Lift my hands, my eyes are still
I'll walk into the sea
Shoot myself in a different place
And leave it
I've longed for this to take me
I've longed for my release
I've waited for the callin'
To leave, leave
Leave, leave
Leavin', leavin'
Nothing could be bring me near
Where is the road I follow
To leave, leave?
It's under, under, under my feet
The sea spread out there before me

Where is the version that was just playing from ? It's definitely not the original
Everybody in my church loves this song...
Why am I hearing Bohren & Der Club of Gore backing Micheal Stipe?
...this is sublime after ophelia - fantastic work, bill!..
Nice try, but the original is far better, more intense I think
I've never heard this....but I like it. Haunting lyrics...I can relate. Would like a second listen.
Nice..
REM on Qualudes.

The original version of this song is one of my top 10 favorite songs. This is ok, but I think I'm heading off to youtube or something to play the original.

definitely one more vote for the original. the original used to be one of my favourite songs. this version is disappointing.

NO WAY MAN! Please keep this version — I had never heard the album version until I sampled it today. The lyrics & Michael's poignant singing totally get drowned out with that highly annoying, repetitive electronic "wah-wah" noise blaring through that album version — yuck! The album art for this track should be "A Life Less Ordinary" soundtrack.
My whole trailer park just stopped in their tracks.

another vote for the original...
I concur with everyone who wishes to hear the original in place of this version.
I like the original version better. Had to think about it for about 00:59:00, but now I am certain.

Wow, this version isn't on New Adventures in Hi-Fi, that's for sure! I like it, but I think I like the original better. This one has a strange mix of of major and minor chords...

beautifully haunting...
I love the way you dream
Ooo, I like this remixed version. Where can I find it?
Yyyyyeah... Not really feelin' it.
Sometimes I love R.E.M., but Stipe's vocal mannerisms drive me nuts on this track.

I know this one from the "A Life Less Ordinary" soundtrack — great collection of songs, 13 years later and I still listen to it every now and then

Whatever your opinion on the quality of the songwriting, this album really is well engineered. I always go to this one when someone wants to hear the stereo system, but are really interested in hearing 'bass'.
This is my favourite song from New Adventures in Hi-Fi, a really underrated album, but I'm not that keen on this version.

Yeah, I was thinking, cool, a new REM song and went to the link to see if they had released a new album that I somehow hadn't heard of, or some Michael Stipe solo deal.
Just pulled this album out of a stack of CDs that I have not listend to in 8 years... this song is fantastic, would love to hear it more on RP...

I'm inclined to agree - I have this album and this doesn't sound familiar. On the other hand, I probably haven't listened to this since 2000 or so since it is not one of my favorite REM releases.
I always thought that the album version was marred by the siren that played constantly during the song. I actually like this one a lot better because they've taken that out...

I uploaded it, and it's from the "A Life Less Ordinary" Soundtrack... Not entirely sure it's the same song as the Adventures album.

Loved this song on the album but maybe now i kinda prefer the less noisy version.

Please play the album version next time. Or any other song off that album, like Zither or How the West Was Won.
