How you gonna keep me warm
Supposing you left me
With the door wide open no one can leave
I know it's a lie I want it to be true
The rest of the ride is riding on you
Over goodbyes we'll buy some place for
Wishing you could
Keep me closer
I'm a lazy dancer
When you move I move with you
Wishing you could
Keep me closer
I'm a lazy dancer
When you move I move with you
If somebody's got soul
If somebody's got soul
If somebody's got soul
If somebody's got soul
You gotta make the move
Make the move
Make the move
I know it's a lie I want it to be true
The rest of the ride is riding on you

I've made one — a very brief one — in these parts in the latter part of this decade. Several times more expensive than can be justiied, to my surprise.
I did this a lot as a kid too...and at some point instead of a live operator the collect caller said their "name" and it was recorded for the person to hear and decide "do I want to talk to this person enough to pay for the call?" well at that point we could just leave the number of the pay phone and presto, my parents would call back and we'd talk for free (big $.25 savings!)
And this topic reminds me of one of my fav ads from the late 90s..."it's Bobwehadababyitsaboy". Enjoy!

Really digging this track, and also wondering if anyone else did what I did....after an initial rating of an 8 and enjoying the vibe, I had to lower my rating to a 7 only because the singing seemed a bit (not sure of a better word) juvenile. Anyways, maybe after a few times listening I'll go back to the 8.
Long Live RP!!
Somehow AT&T survived your criminal activities!
Second, the move is a child object of know tyself.
Saw recently NYC was doing away with all the remaining pay phones in the city.
Very sad, being one of 14 people left in the US without cell phones we sure could use them.
No age in the UK, as over here we reverse the charges. I never quite understood the derivation of 'collect call'...
You can still do this, as far as I know. If you can find a public phone box, that is - they're rarer than rocking horse droppings in these days of ubiquitous mobile phones :(
I think you can, but first you need to find a pay phone.

You mean you can't do that any more?

I remember placing collect calls from coin operated phone booths!

In the U.S., I would think at least in their mid-30s . Good tune.

I am also in favor of bimensurability. However, since the metric system is effectively residue of the French Revolution, and thus related to the International Communist Conspiracy (think I'm joking? There are those who still resist it because of its origins), use it with caution. I also like the band.
Does this mean that Metric are communists?
As an engineer I am comfortable in both SI and English units. Using a system based on powers of 10 may be easier when doing calculations in the head or on paper, but in complex, real world problems there really is no advantage.

Thank you for posting that! Wow - haunting & beautiful --I got goosebumps... Skipping off to eternity to the sounds of Metric, lovely.
When I first heard the album, I wasn't really all that impressed. I think some of the simple popish elements turned me off more than they should
What, is Emily Haines a Catholic? Has she gone all Sinead O'Connor? :o)
Sorry, I couldn't resist that. I get your point, though - this album is a grower, as for all its poppiness at times it really rocks. I'd not have come across Metric if not for RP, so once again major thanks to Bill & Becky. The follow-up album, Synthetica, is even better than this, and is played regularly in my car with the knob turned up to 11.
One would think Metric would be more successful in the US.

Who hasn't been there?
Is it only the female non-voices that get under your skin, or do the males bug you as well?
Who hasn't been there?
Brother (or sister), I know what you mean . . .

When I first heard the album, I wasn't really all that impressed. I think some of the simple popish elements turned me off more than they should or maybe I was just not in the right place to enjoy this. Now, after nearly a year has past, I've been playing this album for about the last week in my car. There is really only one song that I don't really care for, the rest is all either good of very good. Give it a few more spins or retire it for a while and revisit it once you are in a different state of mind.
Yep, I'll second that. You can listen to most songs off the album via the Fantasies album website.
Cool, ufamsm! Thanks for that. Very cool film/video!

ja...
I completely disagree. Only a couple weak tracks on the disc, IMO.
Maybe give it a few more listens?
Agreed. And none so weak that I typically have to skip them.

Well, the whole album kinda sucks. Sorry...
Don't be sorry. I don't agree with you though. Sorry.

MUSE are brilliant musicians and can't even be compared to Metric and Goldfrapp.
Fail
Oh, I have to respond. that was my favorite School House Rock segment, even before "3 is a Magic Number" and "Conjunction Junction"
(I was a little girl after all and "Figure 8" had ice skating in it) but I loved every one of the early Math and English School House Rocks even the really funky Black Power ones like "I Got 6."

Delurked to say I love this band. I discovered this band right here at Radio Paradise and could not get enough so I bought all their albums.
Have to say thanks to RP for turning me on to them.
Thanks!
This album is a little more polished than their previous releases, but they are certainly building a strong catalog. If they come to your town go see them. They are a great live band.
Poor thing...!
Breathy female voices always work for me, has to be close to the ear though. Good tune by the way.
Preferably suffixed by application of warm tongue in self same ear? Definitely works for me.
On a more appropriate note, what a good picture of her that is - you can see the passion for the song in her face.

Metric at the B.C Virgin fest, you can feel the love radiating off her. (Shot while she performed "Stadium Love").

Poor thing...!
How is their other stuff? Is this a representative sample?
Love Metric Emily Haines can do no wrong....
I have wanted to say that for a long time; however; this song has grown on me.

Reminds me a little of Uma Thurman for some reason?! (Appearance-wise that is.)
Great line.

I like this video. Catchy. It made me think of Phish's rotation jams (except they do it live).
Yep

You're welcome. Lead singer is Emily Haines, also heard on RP.
I've heard of this band but never checked them out until now. Very cool video, thanks for the youtube link.
They're from Calgary - go Canada!
OK song.
Good call. I was thinking Snow Patrol.
I agree; catchy song, cool video:

OK song.
But with Ben Gibbard at the microphone doesn't Postal Service already sound like they have a female singing? Sorry couldn't resist; not meant as a slag against him, he just has a high singing voice.
OK song.
