I went walking along the highway
Lost in a trance, as I went on my way
I heard a backbeat, what a weird weird beat
Everywhere I put my feet

It all started about a week ago
When my lover told me
He said, well baby you got to go
I heard a backbeat, what a weird weird beat
Everywhere I put my feet

It was the beat of sorrow
It was the beat of the mood
I know I'll be here tomorrow
If I don't find another love soon

I kept walk walk walking
Walk walk walking down the highway
Lost in a trance, as I went on my way
I heard a backbeat, what a weird weird beat
Everywhere I put my feet

So I went walking along the highway
Lost in a trance, as I went on my way
And I heard a backbeat, what a weird weird beat
Everywhere I put my feet

Ooh trouble, he gives me nothing but trouble
Trouble trouble, he keeps disturbing my sleep
Ooh trouble, he gives me nothing but trouble
Trouble trouble, he gives me nothing but trouble

Thats a no for me.

It's a pretty standard/traditional minor-key chord progression as is "Little Drop of Poison"  Obviously, what one finds 'interesting" and "creative" can vary.  I think it's got a pretty cool arrangement and instrumentation for one thing.
 that sparkling water pistol is disturbing.. {#Eek}

New album starting recording today. And if she uses the same band as last night's show (bass - of course, drums, guit, violin, cello, trumpet, sax and pedal steel) it may be a breakout. Good songs too.

Have the new album!  Went night before last to see her at SCHUBAS TAVERN in Chicago, promoting the album. In the course of the evening, Amy and band played nearly every tune on every one of her three and a half CDs (one, DIED OF LOVE, had only five tracks) that were for sale after the show!  I bought the three I didn't have. Terrific band, including David Cousar on guitar.  He came out before the band as a kind of second opening act and dazzled us all with his amazing guitar and terrific vocals - made me think simultaneously of Tom Waits and Crazy Guggenheim!  Oh, and the ACTUAL opening act was this surprisingly good countryish singer-songwriter Ernie Hendrickson!  I bought both of his CDs at the end of the evening.  If Amy Lavere comes to your town, get on down and see her, even if it is on a weeknight.  Well worth the travel (I went to Chicago straight from work in Wisconsin, and didn't get home until after midnight.)

Amy Winehouse after this maybe?

I was thinking They Might be Giants, Constantinople...

edit:which is what I thought a few months ago...strange I don't remember that. Must be getting old.

Anyone feel like co-writing?

Amy LaVere
Just not feeling this one. Horrible
Love Ms. Amy.  A Memphis girl!
Amy Winehouse after this maybe?

I'd probably rate her higher if she didn't have her finger on the trigger in the photo.

yes, poor trigger discipline. Shame shame.

Cries out for "Insomniac" (originally by Billy Pilgrim but covered by others) to follow.

Very nice.
Love the sound!  Bought the record!  This is a cover - must find the original!

EDIT: So I took my own advice -
Here's Carla Thomas's original:

Ooo sexyyy!
Me likey. {#Yes}

She could be Neko's bratty kid sister.

Wow, is she a terrible singer. And yet it all works!
:( :(
How come I never heard of Amy Lavere before?  Must hear more!

EDIT: Not kidding! I just ordered it from my "man".

I don't get it. Should't it be the other way around?

Hey what's goning on here 'that' was the last tune played backwards.
Nice music from a nice band!
I'd probably rate her higher if she didn't have her finger on the trigger in the photo.

It's nice to hear some Amy LaVere on RP. I don't what it is about female upright bass players, but between Amy LaVere and Esperanza Spaulding, there has been some very fine music lately.

I want her squirt gun.

This sounds like something I'd hear on a 1980's James Bond movie.

Sounds like Tom Waits Little Drop of Poison with different words. And I like it.

My first thought as well. No doubt some of it has to do with the arrangement and instrumentation re "Goodnight Moon."

Bill, please find a copy of her singing "Tower of Song". Great to hear her here!

To me, a cross between Alison Marr from Lick The Tins, and Fleming McWilliams of Fleming & John

Killing Him is the better song on this album.
Funky!
A throaty Ambrosia Parsley?
A 6 upon first listen.
