Have you ever had your heart break?
Have you ever tasted that sweet smoke?
It comes in like a friend and it takes you by the hand
And it throws you from the boat down to the old cold sand
Have you ever held hands with harm?
Would you recognize the devil's charm?
It's a loser's fight when the truth hits like lightning
By the time that you have read this I'll be gone
It's a sad fact
That the old map
Can never tell you where to go
I'm an old soul
In a young shell
I broke down at the crossroads
Have you ever wandered alone?
For so very long that alone becomes your home?
It's a beautiful place, but a matter of taste
Yeah loneliness is subtle and strong
It's a sad fact
That the old map
Can never show you where to go
I’m an old soul
In a young shell
I broke down at the crossroads
Silence on my radio
Silence wraps around me
Silence everywhere I go
The door slams in my face
I think it’s time to leave this place

I'm afraid I have to agree. Turin Brakes has put out some incredible, vital music. This song drags and just doesn't hold my attention. Maybe on further listenings, I'll change my mind. Not rating it, because hey - it's my right, and besides, I could have a bad day or a good one and my current opinion might fly right out the window.

Proving that nothing is permanent.  I bought this CD, didn't like this song on first listen, but now it has melted into my groove. The ears like it.  It's still not my favorite by them, but I'm giving it a 7. We'll see where it goes from here...

Dammit....  why is it when I got to buy the occasional cd that I keep forgetting to get this one?  Everything I've heard from this album (all from RP) has been really good.

Keeping the 8 rating, but bumping the rating so it moves up my list of 8's and maybe will trigger the "buy this!" reaction next time I'm CD shopping.

I didn't like this at first, but I seem to be enjoying it more with each play. {#Jump}

Does not work for me AT ALL!

No thrill - no highlight - no voice - no guitar - no rythm - no lyrics - no melody!

Why so many of this new bands are considered to be so big then?
Same for Snow Patrol and a dozends others.

It does! A left-handed one, at that.

I'll bet someone rates this as a one and ruins it, though.

ETA: Also, I see that someone already rated this as a 4 and messed it up, unless we want to pretend it's a 6-fingered, left-handed one.

...blech...
My wife has a couple older Turin Brakes albums, of which "Lonely Planet" is a huge highlight.  I was surprised to learn that it was a guy singing and not a chick...  I was picturing some scruffy Patty Smith looking woman.  Nope, it's a dude.

As for this track, I'm liking it and wouldn't mind hearing more from the album.
Nice pairing with the Bowie song...this does remind me a bit of old Bowie. {#Music}
