Love dave, but love Richard more PSD.

This old house is falling down around my ears
Im drowning in the river of my tears
When all my will is gone you hold me sway
I need you at the dimming of the day

You pulled me like the moon pulls on the tide
You know just where I keep my better side

What days have come to keep us far apart
A broken promise or a broken heart
Now all the bonny birds have wheeled away
I need you at the dimming of the day

Come the night youre only what I want
Come the night you could be my confidant

I see you on the street in company
Why dont you come and ease your mind with me
Im living for the night we steal away
I need you at the dimming of the day
I need you at the dimming of the day

"Dimming of the Day" is a song written by Richard Thompson and performed with his then-wife Linda Thompson on the 1975 album Pour Down Like Silver. Beautiful rendition by David Guimour.

7, only because it's such a great song
Oh...achingly beautiful. I've always loved Gilmour's music, but it's my first time hearing this, and I love it.  Puts me in a very good place for today.  Thank you, RP!
It's hard to miss covering Thompson. But what amazes me is this soft almost gentle rendition from someone who glowers more than smiles. Nice.
I much prefer Gilmour's voice to Thompson's. Amazing how high he can sing at his age...
Not a big fan of gospel choir backgrounds, but other than that, I like this version a lot.
Passable cover/adequate effort, but nothing like RT's original, the Corr's cover, the Bonnie Raitt cover, etc. etc. etc., (and I suspect the upcoming Allison Krauss cover).
wtf ?  I just read the rest of the comments.

did I listen to the same song everyone else did ?

am I in an alternate universe ?

1 or a 2 ? 1 or a 2 ?

1 it is .

utter rubbish.

Very nice but man, Gilmore has so mellowed in his age......
I had this conversation with my nephew that was rather strange to me. It was strange because he does not see Pink Floyd from my history and he is a very good guitarist. He was saying that Mr. Gilmour was the sole reason that Pink Floyd existed and I (a bit buzzed) was saying that the crazy guy and Waters lyrics were the only reason that Floyd was any good. Lately, after listening for the first time to the Gilmour stuff, I understand where he is coming from. But my truth is that it was still the lyrics that made Pink, Pink... Mostly... Okay, Gilmours guitar had a lot to do with it. Maybe. :) Had Gary re-imagined this song with his electric it would have probably been outstanding. 4 for me. Kind of proved my original point :)

Old dogs and new tricks for me..

Mary Black has also done a very nice cover of this song.

"Dimming of the Day" is a song written by
Richard Thompson and covered by the Irish band The Corrs for their Irish-themed fifth studio album Home. It is the only song on the album where the lead vocal is performed by Sharon Corr. (in Wikipedia)

Looks like a pretty Taylor guitar. Sounds sweet too.
Definitely agree with you grelch (the first time).

I think this is a very lovely version of a wonderful song. Gilmour's version sounds very different, and it sounds quite natural coming from him.

Big fan of this song.  Like Bonnie Raitt's live version (any of them) better though.  Maybe it's just my many years of listening to her do it, though.

Her's is a very fine version.  Didn't Richard's ex-wife Linda sing this, too?

Any Trouble did a nice version on Girls Are Always Right.

Agreed. Bonnie Raitt owns this song in my ears too! Gilmour sounds, er, wrong performing this.
Check out this performance together w/ Richard Thompson:

That wouldn't even make sense, this song has nothing to do with Pink Floyd or Roger Waters. It's a Richard Thompson cover, and a great one at that.

Agreed. I think it's wonderful.

Wow, rough ratings right out of the gate for this one.

Let me guess: It's just not the same without Roger, right?

David Gilmour is one of the best musicians ever. You always know his guitar style even before you hear his voice. I didn't know this album existed. It seems worth obtaining!
So glad this made it on!
