Out of my garden, passed the battle cruiser
We jumped over cemetery gates
There on the wasteland, we saw the horizon
I noticed your pupils dilate

They're at it again, let's roll just like we used to
In fields when we were young our hearts got lost in the circles
We had it all, a rise and fall

Came from the booze and the fags generation
And prayed for the mayhem to start
You said you were foolish but I saw the genius
In pulling the stitches apart

They're at it again, let's roll just like we used to
In fields when we were young our hearts got lost in the circles
We had it all, a rise and fall
So raise your glass to the ones who have passed
And the ones that got away, oh
They're at it again, let's roll just like we used to
In fields when we were young our hearts got lost in the circles
We had it all, a rise and fall
I saw her face, way out in space

To be serious for a moment... I know you can't really have Intellectual Property on a backing track or back beat but this is one of the most blatant deconstructions and reconstructions of a recognisable and famous song that I have ever heard.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Wow, you really are overthinking this. I heard "Maneater" a kajillion times in the 1980s, and I've heard this Kasabian song numerous times, and not once have I thought that one sounded like the other. I even listened to "Maneater" right after hearing this song, because of your comment, and...yeah, no. I have an inkling of what you're talking about, but it's just that: an inkling. Sorry, dude.

That said, Hall & Oates are really underrated.

(ETA: I scrolled back in the comments and saw that someone compared this song to Iron Maiden's "Aces High," and I hear that much more than "Maneater.")
First time hearing this and gave it a 8
If I wasn't already at an 8 on this one, I'd go +1 based on how good of a segue from Cream's "Deserted Cities of the Heart" it was....nicely done Mr. Goldsmith...and LLRP!!

LOL I'd say you're over thinking this due to your bias against them.

Those seem like somewhat contradictory statements.
Like their stuff, this is my fave from them, voice is a little Oasis-esque whiney though
Nice song, but it's a very overrated band.
Great band. Would like to hear more here.

Ninja flying star for me.

The TV ads they ran (Amazon were heavily discounting the MP3 download at Christmas) had the heads moving slowly round in a circle, it was plain bizarre on the eye.
This is the best of their recent work, and that's saying something. After 2006/2007 they fell off the radar and went a bit wacko stylistically.

At the time I was glad they hadn't stuck to writing the swaggering football terrace anthem style of song that was their bread and butter. In retrospect, those were unfortunately far more enjoyable than the songs from their last three albums. Some of their stuff has been so off the wall as to be almost incomprehensibly dreary. Can't believe they're still signed.

Meighan's voice just doesn't work with the current stuff they're doing. At least they aren't applying weird processing to all the instruments and his voice now, some of their previous singles are borderline unlistenable to me. (I consider myself a VERY tolerant music fan when it comes to music outside of my regular scope!)

A generous four for this, mostly because Meighan (mostly) stayed in tune and it didn't feel like a cheap weed-induced attempt at stoner indie rock.

A little bit - mostly the keyboards, but there's a similar feel to the choruses in general.  "Maneater" wasn't exactly a personal favorite, and likewise this isn't my favorite Kasabian song.  Their debut was fantastic but I haven't heard anything at that level from them since.
Vocally he sounds like a slurred version of Liam Gallagher, conclusion utter rubbish.

Yup, singing "oh no here she comes"

orchestration sounds like it should be a movie from a James Bond soundtrack
It's growing on me, bit by bit.  5 > 6.
trumpet at the start hinted at a cover of "I need Love" by LL COOL J.   it was pure pop but maybe someone should do a quality cover, like GUN did to Cameos "word up".

Bonus points for the opening segment
I didnt know they had a new album. Thanks RP.
Catchy, definitely up there.
Where have you been?
Very interesting run from Joni Mitchell to Arvo Part to this.
Works for me (though I'm still struggling with Joni Mitchell).
Fun album, I like it a lot. "Rolling" can also refer to taking X

I think I'm going to cautiously take Fred's POV on this one. It's sorta like James McMurtry talking about "bad ass Hebrews" in "Choctaw Bingo." I would suggest the poster is describing a culture clash more than anything else—and attempting to do it with an assumed dialect ("furrin' language"). Points more to satire than racism.

At any rate, don't let any of the offended even near a Sacha Baron Cohen flick. Ashes, anyone?

I hope you don't mean the OP...

The numbering scheme on the other hand was *obviously* deliberately inconsistent. Come on, people.

Interesting observation... Would not have been my first idea, but when you mention it...
Kind of improves the listening experience for me...

Since I don't think they're intentionally trying to annoy me I'll give it a 3.
I like this song, but the intro always weirds me out.
Not sure if it is a sample or not, but hearing the keyboard refrain from Bowie's "Modern Love"...

Dare I say that I think this song is now getting overplayed on RP?! I enjoy it but that's dropping off as much as I'm hearing it.
Let's just roll like we used to, The bong wastes too much pot.
I like this song more every time I hear it. 8 > 9

Art, you really need to get away from "Spanish Caravan": it doesn't sound like thisong at all and it is not the Root of All Evil

This band's always been a 6–7 for me, no big deal, but I'm giving this a 4. Not much going for it.

Also, I thought at first that Kula Shaker had reincarnated (again). (And that's before I read the comments re "Asian dudes").

I guess you were the only other person who noticed that curious numbering convention.  That author must be a "for'ner".  Good tune, by the way.

Oh yes.  I love language.  There are soooo many different connotations to the usage of "equipment" here.  I'm figuring that by "equipment", Vandal isn't referring to amps.  And I thoroughly agree.

Have to agree with clwguy. The fact they mentioned the race. The fact that it was a bit...IDK...oddly phrased?  (what's a furrin' language, anyway) and the fact that it was absolutely not about the music makes it, in my opinion, inappropriate. Still, anyone can post anything they want here without moderation. I think in this case they were called to task and I think THAT was appropriate. We need to police ourselves or someone else will.

{#Roflol}{#Clap} Yep, it's pretty disturbing. It would be good as an intro to a gruesome zombie computer game, such as Stubbs the Zombie.

This number, and this group, are really growing on me. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

This is actually not bad. I hear so much stuff that I don't hear anything. Singers voice reminds me a bit of Muse a group that I cannot stand but musically it is not too bad I guess. Ringing endorsment, right? Not rating.
That intro sounds like what we used to do as kids -
Go up to an operating window fan and say "aaaoooo aaAAAAaa  ooOOOaaa" into it and it would sound really weird.
Is that what he means by roll like we used to?

Sounds like Doves gone Big Band (the rhythm and style of the song, not the vocalist).

EDIT: Yeah drewd, just got the Maneater vibe from Darryl John and Hall Ass, too.
