Been over the edge for yonks,
Been working me buns off for bands
I've always been mad, I know I've been mad,
Like the most of us, very hard to explain why you're mad,
Even if you're not mad
--
Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave but don't leave me
Look around and choose your own ground
Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be
Run, rabbit run
Dig that hole, forget the sun
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to dig another one
For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave
--
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away, across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell
Bear in mind, I'm a major PF fan. Had most of their discography (until it got stolen).
But listening to this shows why PF used so much visuals in their act.
Honestly, they're not much of a live band....
Production is so-so and the singing is awful (they seem not being able to hear themselves).
I'll also stick to the studio albums....
straight. And my daughter too... Nice version for sure.

Yes, very nice live!!

Someone's age has very little to do with their liking or disliking this tune. Generally, when one writes "nuff said" in a statement, there should not have to be any more words following it.
"The Great Gig in the Sky"
In 2004, she sued Pink Floyd and EMI for songwriting royalties on the basis that her contribution to "The Great Gig in the Sky" constituted co-authorship with keyboardist Richard Wright. Originally, she was paid the standard flat fee of £30 for Sunday studio work. In 2005, an out-of-court settlement was reached in Torry's favour, although the terms of the settlement were not disclosed.<5> All releases after 2005 credit 'Richard Wright/Clare Torry' for the "Great Gig in the Sky" segment.
Fitting and well deserved tribute and restitution. Far too often musicians blame the moneymen for screwing over the hired help. It shouldn't take lawyers for them to figure out how to do the right thing.

I doubt she sued, she sang with Dave recently, I would imagine it was just a sence of fairplay on the part of the band < edit >whatever Wikipedia says!< /edit >.
When the piece started I prepared for one hour of splendor. Only to have Bill's voice bring me down hard saying "we won't be hearing the whole piece today". Pity...
If this were regular radio...I would assume that the DJ needed a diarrhea / cigarette break.
Completely agree with Ziakut. The music is nice, but once a year is enough. Can't you break it into pieces and just play a slice at a time?
There is no "Play something Different" that stands the lenght of this song. :-/
Please more of them live!

8.9 means ??? This is not music and i can't wait for it to end.
Obviously, their gazillions of fans disagree.
Well yeah, but a big part of your argument is a result of the age of the song...a song that anyone who has ever listened to a rock radio station is familiar with. The result is that over time, what we heard as quite unique now feels quite familiar. Best thing to do is probably what they did and package a few versions of the old material up so we can get a sense of both the complexity and the difficulty of reproducing such truly amazing studio energy.

There are few things better than Pink Floyd Live! Goose Bumps everytime!

Next best thing to seeing them live...well, almost.;-)
And thats a GREAT thing... LOVE IT
if you ever wondered if a guitarist could fall asleep in the middle of a solo, the answer is apparently yes.
Ok, we get it, you have no musical taste and like to shout it out, broadcast it indefinitely over the interwebs. Type it out until your fingers bleed. Instead, I would suggest saving your time and changing the station.

I'm going to need to turn this off and put in the studio recording.
...a little addendum...I saw the Wall concert back in 79-80? it was pure genius, flawless.
This dark Side doesn't even come CLOSE .
I was wondering when the yang to the yin of my child-like exhuberance would show up. Now could you let me know where to download that Rye thing?
here it goes again, soul crushing tedium for the now balding, pot bellied, way over the hill stoner set.
couldn't stand it then but hey, they filled the stadium
I think the Ozzie Osbourne you are looking for is on another station........
This reminds me of stumbling on a bootleg in the old days, before the internet made things so accessible and hearing something that you and maybe a handful of others were lucky enough to know about (or so you thought).
Nice piece of music.
I sit here in Skælskør and enjoy life!

Dirk
thank you Bill.
Nobody matches the original, unbeatable Clare Torry on the "The Great Gig In The Sky", but hair splitting aside,
THIS IS AMAZING!
Nobody does concerts like this anymore...probably never will!
Further more, i can not understand how this is a 9,1. An 8 i can understand, but a 9,1... No sorry, not for me...

...i can't say i'm particularly fond of all the extra swag, nor the box cover art, but the discs and two books deliver what i've always felt a proper flagship edition should encompass - for that content alone, i don't feel one hundred twenty dollars is at all unreasonable...
I guess it's NOT a repeat Yes let's hear the whole thing next time PLEASE
Thanks.
Thanks Bill
and radio stations wonder why their going down the tubes? Pretty simple, they don't do sets like Bill's
This is the kind of radio which does what it has to do (as does a lot of the stuff here). Playing such an extended set really makes you want to go and buy the album, have it, hold it, cherish it. I am now thinking of investing in a turntable just to hear this.
The whinging record companies really should just up. Radio works for them, whether Internet or not.
Hat's off the guy behind the mike.
A drink? More like a smoke of sumthin other than tobacco.
All the genius composition and musicianship of the recorded version - and much, much less. At least it's just like being there live - oh, wait a minute, it's actually nothing like that, either. I guess the boys couldn't hear themselves sing, cause even that's not much to cheer about. All told, a waste of several minutes, apart from the female vocals. IMHO, of course. pxd
"I've been mad for fucking years, absolutely years"
