Put my stake into the ground
Made my claim this time around
And in the selfsame circumstance I'd do the same again
Hold on out for the one I love, for the one I know I'm of
I never would be swayed

It was here before we noticed it
It'll be here when we're gone
And if I push you away, well let me be the first to say
That oh I've seen your light, it's in the harbour
Come on pull me all the faster
Back to the selfsame day

Beauty comes in slow release
I awaken to you piece by piece
I have no need for innocence or grief
Put my hand into your hand
And all the words I understand
They fall away like endless days upon the shore
They fall away like endless days upon the shore

We were here before we noticed it
We'll be here if it's gone
And if I led you astray, well let me be the one to say
That oh, I've seen your light out in the harbour
Come on pull us all the faster
Into the selfsame day

And I put my stake into the ground
In a state of grace this time around
And in the selfsame circumstance I do the same again
I would do the same again
I would do the same again

Hmmmm…did you know that the human brain has had specialized receptors built in for cannabinoids? For many thousands of years? Why is that? Just wondering…

Did you know the body has trillions of receptors that can .make antibodies to any possible antigen it could ever encounter? Also for thousands of years.  Even for things past and future we will never encounter.  You could make antibodies against tyrannosaurus blood cells.  Light up and contemplate....
Love everything this lady does
Beth Orton is such an amazing singer songwriter.

Nice that Beth cut the (to my ears) excessive warbling back a bit on this album.  Very nice.
beth orton following tracy chapman is a particularly sublime pleasure
Beth DM please. :-)
Thanks for sharing, Beth Orton — State of Grace is a hot hit song most downloaded as ringtone at klingeltone-kostenlos.de

Well, you're wrong, of course, but why bring up this random opinion on a Beth Orton song comments thread?

Right. And I'm a goner - as in PSD.

... never to be seen again, hopefully. Now we have Beth all to ourselves, without your lot.
Boy, do I ever hear "Tin Man" in this. Nice though.

The sound would be significantly improved by studying Streisand. Her diction is impeccable. Beth keeps you puzzled with her accent.  South central Maine?  Too long vacationing in Nova Scotia?  “CROATOAN?”  A mystery.

beth has always put together great lyrics.
It is unhealthy to smoke. But it can be fun with the right people. Shouldn't we talk about songs here, and not about problems/lifestyle/health?

Evolved here?  Really?  Ahahahaha!  That's funny!

Interesting info. Thanks. I'm listening closer, now, straining to pick it out, but can't hear that typical smoker's throatiness.

She has such a unique voice, huh. I'm a fan.

Don't really care for Beth -

Kinda incoherent lyrics.

Two thumbs up from the Middletown jury.
