Tell me why tell me why tell me why
Umm why can't we live together
Tell me why tell me
Umm why can't we live together
Everybody wants to live together
Why can't we be together
No more war no more war no more war
Umm just a little peace
No more war no more war all we want
Is some peace in this world
Everybody wants to live together
Why can't we be together
No matter no matter what color
Umm you are still my brother
I said no matter no matter what color
Umm you are still my brother
Everybody wants to live together
Why can't we be together

More likely some people don't like politics with their musical enjoyment. FYI I didn't go near any thumbs, just offering a possible explanation.

Sex on silk in a cover song. So good.
Something about this reminds me of "Hang 'em High" by Booker T and the MG's.
OMG!!!!!! Is this a sexy song...or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hot Line Bling would have been far groovier if Drake had sampled this version of this song...his sweater would still be sweet, mind you...

Love this woman
No sure if anyone else does this, but when this song comes on I like to close my eyes and pretend that Sade is talking directly to me, asking me to move in with her. And then I'm like, "Ok Sade, I'd be more than happy to live with you."
A soft rainy day at work... and Bill plays this... oh, thank you Bill. Perfect.
I can't believe the h8ers h8in' on this song.
This album is full of lush love songs, sultry ballads and cool pop tunes. And then this song comes on and it's just the simple, pared-down arrangement and Sade asking,
Tell me why, tell me why, tell me why. Why can't we live to together?
The song is sublime in the context of the album. Go listen to it and stop hatin' on Sade.

One of the keenest regrets I have is not yet being able to see her live; the concert she was going to perform in Denver was cancelled in the aftermath of 9-11. I love her. Forever! Her passionate music transcends for me.
Pure class, and smooth as glass.

As always with her songs, the accompaniment is precisely correct - neither too much, nor too little, always with impeccable taste.
Lovely voice, but as with most of her songs, hardly any musical accompaniment. Shame.

Thank you for this fine Music!

Love Sade, but this song hasn't aged well (not speaking of the lyrics but rather the sound).
I love Sade so very, very much, but this is my least favorite version of this song. It's just so...meh.

Great song from the excellent debut album. I listened to that album so many times in the 80s and never got tired of it. 35 years later and I still love it. Aged well imho.
true musician listens to the base
Nice bass line playing on this track.
as long as I only hear it once every two years I like it

oh I haven't heard this for about 25 years. still great
Beautiful version of a great song.
Sexiest voice of my era. Hands down.
Timmy Thomas's original is great. It has soul and conviction. But Sade's cover takes it to the next level. She owns it.
Also great: check out this live version by Stevie Winwood and Carlos Santana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hNVaVYDxUo

This is a fantastic cover, very sultry and silky but the Timmy Thomas original is intense and soulful, just in a different way. I've always liked how they kept this production minimal like the original.
yes
Not often you hear a cover version as good as the original. Or better?

Sade at Live Aid. The moment she turned around mid song and all the jaws dropped.

...and lyrically more relevant than ever.
nice laid back style. enormously popular at the time. yuppie music, i guess you'd have to say. i can almost picture Patrick Bateman doing lines to this.
This track was a staple on the New Age radio station "The Wave", KTWV (FM 94.7), in Los Angeles during the late 80's. The only radio station of which I've been a fan, other than RP, of course.
Sadly, New Age had trouble holding its own, commercially. David Arkenstone, Andreas Vollenweider and a couple of guitarists were able to make a go of it, at least for a while. Michael Hedges doesn't count — he bristled at the New Age moniker. Richard Burmer, anyone? Checkfield?

Hey.... I have this LP in my collection, and haven't heard it in probably 20 years! Thanks. Hearing it again has got me smiling.
I guess I'll have to wander over to iTunes and buy it again.

Nice.....not sure I've EVER heard Sade on RP, ...but always good with me.
This was made before Sade learned how to sing. It doesn't matter though, there is enough god given talent that it still come out like butter.

Nice bass line playing on this track.
And 30 years later the lyrics are as relevant as ever.
The default state for humankind, if left to itself with no conditioning, is to live in peace. It is up to everyone to teach their children that this is not only possible but easy to do. . . as long as they ignore all governments and think and act for themselves.
Peace.

Name one place where one could hear Sade these days other than RadioParadise? Never ceases to amaze me.

Steve Winwood also did it... I had thought his was the original. I love RP, I'm so much wiser now
I like Steve Winwoods version most!

This version just doesn't cut it for me. I had to go to yoobtoob to hear the original.
no more war, no more war, no more war. thanks for playing this now.
Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches be dancing buck ass naked all across the holy moly world like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners and B.F. Skinner... we love this splendiferous song... we be living together... love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...
