Oh how sadly sound the songs the queen must sing of dying
A prisoner upon her throne of melancholy sighing
If she could see her mirror now
She would be free of those who bow and
Scrape the ground before her feet
Silently she walks among her dying midnight roses
Watches as each moment goes that never really know us
And so it seems she doesn't care
If she has dreams of no one there
Within the shadows of her room
But all my frozen words agree, and say it's time to
Call back, all the birds I sent to
Fly behind her castle walls, and I'm
Weary of the nights I've seen
Inside these empty halls
Wooden lady turn and turn among my weary secrets
And wave within the hours past and other empty pockets
Maybe we've found what we have lost
When we've unwound so many crossed entangling
Misunderstandings; but
All my frozen words agree and say it's time to
Call back all the birds I sent to
Fly behind her castle walls, and I'm
Weary of the nights I've seen
Inside these empty walls
A prisoner upon her throne of melancholy sighing
If she could see her mirror now
She would be free of those who bow and

Definitely has that Rickenbacker 12 string sound.Jackson mate, we’re all impressed your not dead too!! Love ya, man. Matches32
Saw him here in Austin a couple of months ago....his first 3-4 albums before he got into the activism were the best IMO but he still puts on a good show and his voice is pretty clear unlike some of the other guys getting up near 70. For Everyman still my fave!!
I saw JB in concert a few years back. Awesome! Just JB and about 30 guitars.
Jackson Browne - So glad he's still around. I've driven a lot of Colorado roads listening to this man's music. Somewhere between the snow melt and the glorious sunsets he stirs memories.

Never been a fan, period.

If the lyrics bother you just listen to the tune. Pretty cool and very Roger McGuinn-like. Some people just dwell way too much on the words.

Weary, sure. Mad, maybe. Better than resigned.
Mr. Browne must be weary and mad. It's evident in this song. 40+ years of his activism, of writing many other weary and mad or sad protest or social-awareness songs (even Red Neck Friend, a funny but cynical country western bop), and his audience and nation and planet are no better off than his '70s on-the-road tunes. The bright side is he's got rich material to draw on for his crooning.

Being a "Negative Nancy" all your life will make you a sourpuss. From the eternal optimist.
Actually it's not new, but a re-recording of a really old Browne song, which I think was used in a movie soundtrack in the early 70's if memory serves.

Ho hum...
Nothing groundbreaking here...but it's faithful Jackson Browne...and that's ok with me. There's a slight sadness that prevails here...like faithful Jackson Browne. Faithful it is. Nice to hear some new things from this veteran.
