Waking light, it grew from the shadow
Brace yourself to the morning low
Night is gone, long way turning
You've waited long enough to know

When the memory leaves you
Somewhere you can't make it home
When the morning comes to meet you
Lay me down in waking light

No one sees you here, roots are all covered
There's such a life to go and how much can you show?
Day is gone on a landslide of rhythm
It's in your lamplight burning low

When the memory leaves you
Somewhere you can't make it home
When the morning comes to meet you
Rest your eyes in waking light

When the memory leaves you
Somewhere you can't make it home
When the morning comes to meet you
Open your eyes with waking light

Because you have!!!  Every song he comes up with sounds like a song that has already been written.

yeah, sounds so much like Loser or Tropicalia.....

Disregarded.  If you be drinking Dos Equis, you're taste is already in question.

"Dos Equis...." Google translates this as 'the horse pisses'

Under-rated album, in my opine
Terrific  '60's  flavor.
Always good to hear His Version.

You may not like it, or think it was bubble-gum or pop or shmaltzy or... whatever,

BUT Sailing was frickin' everywhere in 1981.  For good or ill, it was the song of the summer and ubiquitous.  The Grammy's have always tended to reward this kind of popular success.

Also, listen to the guitar solo at the end of "Ride Like The Wind"; he played that. You can't say he isn't talented.

it uses notes! from the scale!! BOORRRING!
This one's a beauty
Sad that most of what Beck is known for is "Loser" and "Where It's At".  Songs like this make it pretty clear he has enormous range as a musician.

LOL
I never followed Beck's career after his first hit. Turns out this might have been a huge mistake.

Staring into the mirror again?
outstanding album. Every track has merit. This is a great example.

I haven't heard her album, but I wouldn't think so.  Remember though, the Grammy Awards have a history of dubious outcomes, like Feb. 1981 for example:
Christopher Cross
"Christopher Cross became the first artist to win all four general-field awards in one night: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist."

Beck just keeps getting better. And also keeps coming back, which is just fine with me =)

Sadly, he lost Best Haircut to Billy Ray Cyrus.
Bittersweet for me. Reminds me of dropping my daughter off at college, then saying goodbye. This song played on that long drive home without her.

Ok.

In this case: which song?

This is the only song on this album that starts to take a firm direction, then it stops.  End of album.  Hopefully this is a ramp up to the next album being a more lively one?

love this song and this entire album.

for any grateful dead fans, I get a big Terrapin Station vibe from the guitar riffs at the end of this song.

for anyone skeptical of the grateful dead, who like this song and tone, i strongly suggest giving Terrapin Station a listen.  and enjoy.
Wonderful album, now one of my all-time favourites.
The definition of too much air time on RP = Beck Morning Light album... Enough already.  Commercial radio loves Beck, that should be a sign.

Maybe Bill and Rebecca will make a push for more Beyoncé in the line-up now that we've been educated on artistry!  There go the crickets again...

Noted philosopher Paul Stanley got it right.

The fact that this album won proves there is a music God. Or at least a good Accountant.
This album transports. Soothes. Renews. As a "mourning" album, it fit right where I was this past year.
Wonderful album - glad to finally hear some new tracks from it on RP....

love this record
He always insists that I listen.
