Who am I?
Are you happy with your housing?
Are you climbing up the walls?
Are you deafened by the headlines
Or does your head not hear at all?
Are you pacified by passion?
Are you armed to the teeth?
Are you bubbling at the surface
Of what's cooking underneath?
Are you dying for an answer
For what they call good grief?
But there's a terrific chance there's nothing
Beyond what you believe
Oh, don't you say
That you think I'm in glory
Oh, don't you say
That you think I'm gonna get no glory
Running to the exit with a huge grin on my face
Screaming, "Hope is behind, and I wanna get high"
I went to the liquor store
And they took all my money
I stared into the mirror there
And begged a man to love me
Do you love your blessed father? Anoint by fear of death
Do you feel the lies creep on by as soft as baby's breath?
Do you beg that truth will set you free? Are you shackled by the keys?
Well if I was you, I'd stay strapped in 'cause all you've got is me
Oh, don't you say
That you think I'm in glory
Oh, don't you say
That you think I'm gonna get no glory
Running to the exit with a huge grin on my face

This might take more time, but I think I like it. Existential malaise, this boomer identifies with it, for every generation and decade. We all need escape, right?
Sorry. This album is f*cked.
Uh I don't think Damon did himself any favors with this one. The Happy Dictator song is fine but this one is... ummm... hmmmm....
Kinda reminds me of an old song from the 80s by Fun Boy Three.

Should just play Idles.
I don't hate this but I don't hear the pop hooks that Gorillaz usually have.

"Hope is behind, and I wanna get high"
Pretty much captures my entire feeling about the USA these days …
Between this and “The Happy Dictator,” seems like Damon Albarn has his pop finger on the pulse of our current Western malaise, eh?

Mixed, William? I think not. Mixed would not have 29% of the listeners rating this a 1; and an overall 3.9. That's a pretty heavy "no thanks" mandate...

This seems to be making a lot of listeners here angry? Or something? They are probably just afraid of creativity and change.

Not great, but not the worst I hear on here. Not the best Gorrillaz I've heard, but also not the worst. I'll hold off for now and see what it does down the road

Keep it interesting - agreed.
Too popular - surely a broader church gives us greater number of opinions.
Resistance to growth/change - if so, why do we all listen to RP (with so many other options available to us).
Like many other listeners who have posted on this board, I really like Gorillaz but this song, in my opinion, is terrible.
Live with a diversity of opinions.
Oh my, what is happening to your listener base? I think you've become too popular because a 4 average rating for this is incomprehensible to me. We are genXrs in this household and grew up with really awesome music: classic rock, disco, funk, punk, rap, grunge. Your average listener is showing their resistance to growth and change and the ability to relax on a Friday night. If we can endure the awful country that you sometimes intersperse between the awesomeness I hope others can also do so. Keep it interesting RP.

Damon has always pushed the envelope. It *is* a little odd on the first listen but so was Clint Eastwood. Not every song he does is an instant hit, but all are worth listening too. tentative 7, it may go up on the next listen.
I've tried... but this is a no for me. Too much dissonance in this for my liking.
FFS no.
I like Gorillaz but this sounds flat and extra-discordant.

What the phucking phuck?
Apparently this will be released in March 2026. If this is what we have to look forward to, I'm ready for the asteroid.
Always good to hear a new layered, slightly weird Gorillas number!
