Huu!
Why don't YOU leave instead!
Right? LEAVE RP?!...one of the best guitar players in the world and one of the most prolific bands ever.( In concert, Carlos is even better.) Might as well tell R.P to leave out the Stones or Prince. Ridiculous notion.
nice organ.
That's what she said....
Why can't Santana just leave RP?
Why don't YOU leave instead!
Oh boy - another 'rpdevotee' comment indicating your level of devotion to RP is less than 100%. Scan the comments, for instance CoJo's, and you'll see that EVEN these overplayed tunes are welcomed by many, even on RP, a lot of the time. Sure some folks want to whine about it, and that's OK too. Where I get a bit jittery is when I read the (very polite) order to stop playing something. Unless you are on the Board of Directors....?
For me, outside of how much I like this song (I've rated it a 10 b/c of the time in my life when I first HEARD Abraxas (i.e. 25 years after it was released) I really enjoy how BillG mixes the tunes, allowing a bit of enjoyment for almost everyone who would tune in, while opening our collective ears to music we're not familiar with; in a word: Brilliance!! Long Live RP!!
Exactly
Cool Mom. She may have been one of my girlfriends ... ?
I just looked up "Oye como va mi ritmo" after all these years, and it translates to "Hey how's my rhythm going". Somehow I can't picture that line in an English song.
Actually, I just found out it is a slang pick-up line to say to women!!

Thank You for the info! I always wondered about the English translation, GREAT TUNE!! Thanx RP!
Just now it sounded new to me, and I'm bumping to it in my kitchen.
Maybe it's senility.
Either way, thanks RP!
The best part about RP is there are so many songs from so many genres that when i hear a classic like this i can enjoy it since i haven’t heard it in so long. And lest u think I’m new to Santana, i saw them in the late 70s. BTW Al Di Meola opened. U want guitar work, check him out.
I AGREE! I have been listening to Al DiMeola since the 70s!!
I grew up on Tito Puente, mi ritmo 🥁 This, however, serves it up quite nicely…!
Mikey Shrieve knew exactly what to play - and when - and does it to perfection.
You didn't hear this song until you were in your twenties?!? The 1980s?!?!?
How do you say, "Late to the party," in Spanish?
Nah, it didn't turn into drech until the 10,302nd play which was about 1982 if memory serves me correctly. The first 10,000 plays were okay...
So, not late to the party, just have gained the wisdom to leave with the pretty girl when she smiles at me, and not wait for my drunken idiot friends to deem themselves suitably wasted...
By the time you're 50 something and have heard it played ad nauseum for 30 plus years you will come to regret this public display of naivete...
55 years old here, *still* think its brilliant.
I might be naive, but I knows what I likes.....

I find your aesthetic sensibilities confusing.

How about Venezuelan-native Oscar De Leon's version? That's pretty good too.
Opa bato :)
Tito's version of Oye Como Va:
Tito Puente: "Oye Como Va"
Also great: Tito Puente: "Ran Kan Kan"

Half the fun of coming to RP is to read the idiotic shit that some people have to say
Is that a cartoon?
I missed the release of karljonasson's greatest hits, sorry.
So does Dirk Diggler!
Yeah i guess you don't like Radiohead either.
Yahtzee.
Well, there's always Chilliwack/April Wine/Triumph/Pat Travers/Trooper/Saga/Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
No noodling or repetition in that crowd, eh?
i hear it
wait, ohmygod, Spirit follows! Mmmmmmm
This one still rocks the house!
I love the song, but you're right I hear it sooooo much!!!
back in the day I didn't like santana or led zepplin or any of those guys. Thank you, Bill!
+1
Also, there was a mayor of Albuquerque a while back named Jim Baca. Guess I know what he's doing in his retirement....

Now that was funny!
Cool music transcends!
I'll never hear this song again without thinking of that movie by the Coen brothers. Hilarious!
It's not that this is a BAD song but it's one of those FM songs I feel like I've heard way too many times.
What saves it for me is the usage in the Coen's movies (it was in Big Lebowski too).
"I didn't ask for Santana Abraxas, I didn't listen to Santana Abraxas, I didn't do anything!"
Jimmy = Jimi?
¡¡¡Viva Santana y México!!! RP too! :-D

So, why'd you bother coming back? Next time, stay gone.
Meanwhile the streets of our fair city are filled with protesters. We go now to our roving reporter Earl Canonbear to find out what's going on."Earl, what's happening out there?" "Well Stu, there are thousands of people in the streets, and these numbers are being replicated in other cities across the land, so there could be millions of people out marching today." "This protest has nothing to do with the war or health care reform, is that correct Earl?" "That's true, surprisingly, these people are protesting the Santana song 'Oye Como Va.'" "I see many signs that say 'No Mas', I also see many signs with pictures of a line crossing out the band's name." "I talked to protest organizer Ady Miles to find out why the uproar." "Well Earl, this song is just so predictable and boring, it has to be silenced before it encroaches on the eardrums of innocent victims everywhere." "But Mr. Miles aren't you promoting censorship?" "No....Huh?" "Mr. Miles, haven't you heard of the mute button or the off button?" What's your point?" "Well, what about all the people who enjoy this song?" "Your questions have become predictable and annoying, this interview is over." "Well, there you have it Stu, ...back to you"
News update!
Ady Miles comes back to complain about Santana saying; "this song is one of the reasons i left RP". But he came back to complain after he left RP. . . thus negating his leaving. Ady then fell into a weird comment feedback loop and (hopefully) self combusted.

I DENY IT'S A GREAT SONG AND SO DO MILLIONS OF OTHERS
I've no idea how anyone could give it a 8, 9 or 10
