No one in sight for fifty miles
Sleeping fields sigh as I glide across their spines.
If I can just reach the crest of that hill
This whole day will tumble, out the night will spill.
The sky as still as a spinning top
Shooting stars drop like burning words from above
If I could just connect all these dots
The truth would tumble like a Cynic vexed by love.
And yet people keep saying
I'm miles from my home,
Miles from my home.
I met you again in my sleep last night,
These are days of slow boats and false starts.
Hearts remain under lock and key,
You will be the one to set them both free.
And yet people will tell you
You're miles from your home,
Miles from your home.
But that's where I want to be.
Out there searching,
Out here fumbling,
Out here waiting
For you and you for me.
The moon hangs like a question mark,
Pale as milk, bold as promise.
When will you share these sights with us?
When will we hold you in our arms?
And people will tell them
We're miles from our home,
Miles from our home.
Sleeping fields sigh as I glide across their spines.
If I can just reach the crest of that hill
This whole day will tumble, out the night will spill.
The sky as still as a spinning top
Shooting stars drop like burning words from above

Great song. This was my anthem for a long while.
My name is Miles, I am always Miles...from my homeI love the Junkies.....
No way! A good Cowboy Junkies song. Somehow I missed it all those times. Well, that's one!
Great song. This was my anthem for a long while.

This song leads me to late night contemplations. Enjoy the journey, this life that is yours and yours alone. Breathe deeply and gather all your experiences to you. From birth to death it's really a very short span of time, so take it all in as much as you can. And don't panic if you get lost from time to time. The journey, you may find, IS your home...

This is the 1998-est song ever.
I am many miles from home right now... love this song...
Good to be home... we be dancing wantonly... love this...
These lyrics are deeper than the music allows it to be. Maybe that's why I like this. Interesting and well done. Not outstanding, but good.
Following the previous two postings...I also miss the profound and often 'spot on' postings of Cynaera very much! See you on the other side some day...Miles from our home.

Cowboy Junkies are outstanding! I could listen to them all day
Slarnf!
Man, this song could have rocked with a half-way decent vocalist.
8 mark > very good.

One of the few CJ songs that doesn't make me want to go kill myself. Maybe I just didn't listen closely enough to the lyrics.

Great band in concert - I was really preparing myself to be disappointed when I heard Margo's "real voice" (no studio conditioning, etc.), but alas, she has a fantastic voice live - clear as a bell. They had a multi - instrumental guy with them that played a killer lead mandolin - I thought maybe they were playing over a recording, because I heard this screaming lead guitar, but none were on stage - then I noticed that it was the guy in back with the mandolin.
I don't recall now if they played this - the song is kind of new to me. They did play a couple from the album that is coming out - pretty good stuff for a first listen.
Margo tells little stories between songs and seems like a very warm person - she even made a point of promising to come meet with the audience while the guys packed up.
I'd go see them again tomorrow if they came back.
I saw them live a few years back and must agree! They are great live. Margo has an amazing live voice, with more range than the haters might expect. I've always loved this band and I find them more genuine than many of today's emo pop darlings. I don't mind that her voice stays in the low range. They are great songwriters and musicians. Most of their music resides in the "slow and moody" area but they have a few more upbeat songs like this. I love the variety.

Yes, it's good when she gets out of that catatonic material.
This song has the largest dynamic range of any song I've ever heard her sing. She has a really good voice. I wish she'd use more of it more often.

sorry haters. love the song. love the band. love radio paradise.
I knew they had one in them that I would find at least passable! Normally not remotely interested in listening when the CJ's come on but this is decent.
The Junkies badly, badly, badly need a singer with a range of more than 1/2 octave.

Thanks bindi, that's a good review! It's nice to know they still sound great. I hope to see them someday.

Almost bouncy!
Michael Timmins always struck me as a good songwriter who would have been a great songwriter with some help from a really good editor.

The diversity that exists in this world is wonderful and keeps life interesting. That said, my feelings on this band and song are the complete opposite of the above. Amazing.

Well, these folks sure have changed a lot since their "Trinity Session" days. I'm not sure I like the direction they've gone in since, but I suppose you can't make it on a string of slow, mopey cowboy songs alone.
Oh, they did quite well on that string alone. They're doing something different now. And that's okay with me.

Although, by default, anything Margo Timmins sings is at least "nice".
And anything that Margo wears--or doesn't wear--is nice. I wish she wasn't miles from my home. What a drop-dead stunner!
Very POP for CJ's but never get tired of hearing it.
This song is not entirely unlike calculus. Each time I hear it, it gets better by an infinitely small fraction. Started out a solid 5 2-3 years ago, now up to 8. Something to be said for that.
Loving it...

Uh, Yeah. Whoops :)
Anything by the Junkies is at least an 8 in my book. This is one of my favorites. It's a romantic favorite for my GF and I; we love travel and it seems to fit us.
Also, this is a great and simple tune to play on the guitar, as are most junkies songs.

Solid 8. Gotta luv Margo Timmins.
